The shrink film that bundles six Barilla sugo jars as secondary packaging is more than just a protective layer. It’s a clear commitment to sustainability: 30% of the film is made from recycled material from the DSD 310 household waste collection.
Six Barilla sugo jars – perfectly wrapped in a shrink film that does more than hold them together. It’s a statement for sustainability: 30% of the material comes from high-quality regranulate, sourced from post-consumer LD/LLDPE films in the DSD 310 fraction. What was once packaging waste is now a new product – without compromising on quality.
The transformation is driven by “edvanced” technology
On an INTAREMA® TVEplus® recycling system from EREMA, the material is extruded, gently processed, and optimized for demanding applications. This technology ensures a consistently gentle melt treatment with minimal shear – from melting to pelletising. Thanks to the Preconditioning Unit (PCU) and patented Double Disc (DD) technology, even high moisture levels are reliably removed.
Purity is key
A two-stage filtration system guarantees that even very small contaminants are eliminated. First, the EREMA laser filter removes aluminum, foreign polymers (PET, PA), and temperature-sensitive paper particles early in the process – preventing them from decomposing and causing unpleasant burnt odours. Then, ultra-fine filtration down to 50 µm delivers a flawless regranulate.
And because (outer) packaging for food must be not only clean but also odour-neutral, the EREMA ReFresher technology takes care of deodorisation – making the material perfectly suited for this kind of use in the food industry.
The result
A sustainable rPE shrink film that enables food brands to take responsibility without compromising on quality, functionality, or brand image. A powerful example of how circular economy principles are becoming reality in the packaging industry.
