How INTCO turns EPS waste into valuable products

As one of the world’s largest recyclers and end users of expanded polystyrene (EPS), the Chinese corporation has built an integrated system to transform plastic waste into valuable end products. The high-quality recycled pellets required for this process are produced using INTAREMA® TVEplus® systems equipped with EREMA Laserfilter technology.

Recycling at INTCO is consistently aligned with the final product. The company processes plastic waste into high-quality recyclate that is used in the production of new products. One key example is picture frames. INTCO processes the recycled EPS into profiles and uses it for frames that are distributed internationally via the furniture retail sector.

This approach defines the company’s entire process chain. Material quality is determined by the requirements of the final application. The whole recycling process is therefore designed to ensure constant, reproducible and high recycled pellet quality.

Consistent product quality requires stable recycling processes

To achieve this, INTCO relies on recycling technology from EREMA. Around 30 INTAREMA® TVEplus® systems equipped with EREMA Laserfilter technology are in operation. These systems ensure stable processing conditions and consistent melt quality, even with challenging input materials. Frank Liu, Founder and Chairman of INTCO Medical and INTCO Recycling, emphasises the importance of strong partnerships in keeping secondary raw materials in the loop:
“We want to become a leading recycling company across multiple segments. To achieve this, we need an experienced and reliable technology partner. With EREMA, we have exactly that at our side.”

The scale of INTCO’s recycling activities already delivers measurable benefits. According to the company, its processes have helped save approximately 5.1 million tonnes of oil to date. In recent years, INTCO has also expanded its activities in PET recycling, underlining its ambition to further strengthen its position in the global plastics recycling market. EREMA’s VACUREMA® technology is used in this segment.

“INTCO is a partner that focuses on the end product right from the start when developing recycling solutions. Closing the loops for plastic is our common goal. We have been working towards this for nearly 15 years and will continue to do so in the future,” says Manfred Hackl, CEO of the EREMA Group.
