Premium products made from recycled plastics are proving that circularity and quality can go hand in hand. A recent collaboration between Healix, Harper Collective, AXIPACK, and epsotech shows how discarded fishing nets and post-consumer plastic waste can be transformed into durable, design-driven luggage. Using advanced recycling technology from EREMA, Healix demonstrates how challenging waste streams can be converted into high-quality materials for demanding consumer applications.
Turning discarded fishing nets into high-quality raw material for demanding consumer products is no simple task. After collection and washing, the material presents significant processing challenges, including moisture levels of up to 10% and a very low bulk density.
To meet these requirements, Healix selected an INTAREMA® 1714 TVEplus® recycling system from EREMA with double filtration as the technological enabler for the project. The machine's three-stage degassing technology is ideally suited to handling the demanding characteristics of washed fishing nets, helping transform a challenging waste stream into a consistent, high-quality recycled material.
As an EREMA customer, Healix demonstrates how advanced recycling technology can unlock high-value applications for recycled plastics and help turn discarded materials into products that meet the highest expectations for performance and appearance.
The journey from discarded fishing nets and post-consumer plastic waste to premium luggage shows what is possible when technology, expertise, and collaboration come together. Rather than being limited to low-value applications, recycled plastics can become the foundation for products that are durable, attractive, and built to last.
Ultimately, this is what drives circularity forward: creating products so good that the recycled content becomes an added advantage, not the defining feature.
