With the introduction of VOLEX technology at K 2025, EREMA set a new benchmark in plastics extrusion – bringing water stripping to a single-screw extruder without compromising throughput or output quality. Since then, the technology has been continuously refined under real operating conditions. The result: further improvements in degassing performance, process flexibility and application potential.
VOLEX enables efficient removal of unwanted substances during the extrusion process. Compared to standard degassing systems, this leads to significantly improved output quality. With this technology, VOC (volatile organic compounds) levels in the final recycled pellets can be reduced by up to 40 percent compared to INTAREMA® TVEplus® degassing, and up to 75 percent compared to the input material.
A new level of degassing for sensitive applications
Since its market introduction, VOLEX technology has been further developed under practical operating conditions. Targeted optimisation of the screw geometry enables degassing performance levels that previously required a larger machine size. The latest technology update allows VOLEX to be used both with and without water stripping, with the optional water injection opening up additional potential for sensitive applications.
Edvanced Recycling Facts:
“Decontamination and deodorisation effects that, compared with standard systems on the market, can only be achieved through several hours of thermal post treatment of the pellets can already be realised directly during the extrusion process thanks to VOLEX. This reduces energy consumption and operating costs for recycling companies. The strong increase in melt surface area, combined with TVEplus® technology, results in an optimal balance between degassing performance and thermomechanical stress on the input material.”
Markus Huber Lindinger, Managing Director at EREMA
A major advantage of VOLEX is its ability to achieve decontamination and deodorisation directly during extrusion. This eliminates the need for energy-intensive downstream processes such as thermal post-treatment for specific applications – reducing both energy consumption and operating costs.
As a result, VOLEX is particularly suited to medium-sensitive applications where high quality and low odour are essential, but do not require food or cosmetic grade standards. Typical examples include automotive interior components or packaging for household chemicals.
