Innovative, climate-friendly and extremely stable - this is the new, sustainable material made from recycled post-consumer plastic packaging that outdoor outfitter VAUDE uses for the back system of its ‘ReCycle’ bike bag series.
The plastic construction must fulfil special requirements to ensure that the bike bag can be attached to the pannier rack in a way that is both light and permanently stable. Procyclen, a polypropylene recompound specially developed for VAUDE, has special long-term impact resistance in extremely low and high temperature ranges with additional guaranteed UV and surface scratch resistance. At the same time, improved tensile strength ensures the geometric stability of the product.
‘This is a unique new formulation whose properties have never before been achieved on an industrial scale, even when modifying virgin material,’
Dr Manica Ulcnik-Krump, Head of the Recycled-Resource business unit at Interzero.
With the ‘Recycled-Resource’ process, Interzero has perfected the compounding of used plastics and the production of customised recycled raw materials - to the benefit of the industry and the environment: according to a study by the Fraunhofer Institute UMSICHT, the use of Procyclen saves around 56 percent of greenhouse gas emissions compared to the use of virgin material.
